“Monadnock Moment,” 11×14 Pastel
Does everyone love paintings of Mt. Monadnock as much as I do?
Instead of “I Brake for Yard Sales,” my bumper sticker of choice could read, “Never walked past a painting of Mt. Monadnock without stopping.” Sometimes, the images take my breath away—such splendor and beauty.
In my first Mt. Monadnock since studying pastels with impressionist extraordinaire Barbara Jaenicke of Oregon this past fall, I have painted a Monadnock for everyone—bold, vivid colors in the height of fall. It is called “Monadnock Moment” and it is for sale.* Only at the Gallery@Syd’s, the art gallery for everyone at the furniture store in Downtown Keene, which is sort of the furniture store for everyone. Incredible selection, everything from carpets to delux bedding with couches, kitchen tables and lamps in between. I’m going to stay focused on art for now.
Barbara would maybe see her influence more in my painting, “Bretwood Bridge View.” Again, bold, vivid colors and strokes/marks. A golden highlight where the autumn foliage and the light converge. More about this one soon.

Local art, local reproductions, local motif
Today’s point is, I would love to have everyone own a Monadnock painting for Christmas. So much do I want this, that my dear colleague Mark Corliss made super high-quality Giclée prints of my pastel painting for me and the selling price framed is $95. I’m frowned upon by the other artists because there is no markup in that price for the artist’s work—it is mostly the reproduction and the frame. I’d like to sell dozens of these at the Gallery@Syd’s this season and I’m happy to lose money on every one. How will I make a profit from this? Like the old joke goes, “Volume.”
Syd’s is open every day and Jess, Dee or Carol know where my work hangs. Upstairs, there is a sweet make-pretend Art in the Park Shop under a 10×10 white tent. Here, I have many sizes of matted prints, small framed prints and note cards on offer, including many of “Monadnock Moment.” It will make me very happy—and I’ll cry—if you buy something, as a gift to yourself or someone else.
*Please note: The original is not for sale at this time.
I am happy to sign any size print you choose from the Gallery wall or the Shop @Syd’s. Just send me a message
